West Wales Farrier is owned by Dave Jones. Born and bred in West Wales, Dave has had a passion for horse all his life. He started his pre farrier training in Hereford when he was 16 years old and then got an Apprenticeship in West Wales where he has worked ever since.

He achieved his Dip W.C.F distinction in 2006, and feeling there was so much more to learn started working for Jim Blurton and team – a 2005 World Champion Farrier and Worldwide Professional Farrier and Haydn Price who was the Olympic Team Farrier at the time. In these roles he gained valuable skills and experience, and an understanding which fuelled his ambition to compete in Farriery competitions, attend numerous lectures and seminars, and work with different farriers to gain further experience.

After years of contracting, Dave started taking work on at home because he loved seeing the same horses on a regular basis, assessing his own work, and seeing great changes first hand. After a short while at home, he decided to continue continue with his education, gaining his A.W.C.F qualification, which proved to be a fantastic experience.  During this time, he also represented Wales in the Welsh Farriery Team and started competing across Europe and had a few trips to America and South America where he had the privilege of being asked to train young Farriers in Columbia on several occasions which was a phenomenal experience. That experience helped Dave understand the importance of developing and building skills in order to serve his clients the best he can.

Dave truly has a real passion for Farriery. He loves the skills incorporated in the work, the assessment and biomechanics involvement and the challenges that Farriery presents every day, working with equine professionals to provide the best care for horses, ponies, donkeys, and on occasion, even sheep and goats!

He feels honoured to earn a living from something he loves so much and does not class it as a job. To him, it’s a way of life and fantastic interest!
